In the reign of King Rama VI, 32 pavilions located in Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University were the residence of the queens, princesses, and royal consorts or King Rama V or King Chulalongkorn. Apart from the pavilions, there were also residential buildings of courtiers and ladies in waiting. One of the pavilions known as “Sai Sutha Nopadol Pavilion” was the residence of H.H. Princess Saisavali Bhiromya, Princess Suddhasininart, one of the queen of King Rama V since 1924. As the Queen had many ladies in waiting living living in the pavilion, she commissioned the construction of the “Nipakarn School” with the aim to use it as a place to provide general education as well as trainings on proper manner and Thai handicrafts for these ladies. At the present time, 6 pavilions still remain in their original condition.

In 1999, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, which was still known as Suan Sunandha Rajabhat Institute at that time, developed the project of graduate programs for the first time with the main aim to provide programs at the graduate level including diplomas, master’s degrees, graduate diplomas, and doctoral degrees in various fields of study. The project was known as “the Graduate School” and was under the supervision of the Vice President for Special Affairs. Its status was equivalent to the faculties. The fist program that was offered was Master of Education in Quality Management. In 2004, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat Institute became a university through the Rajabhat University Act, B.E.2547 which was announced in July 2005.

According to Section 10 of the Rajabhat University Act, B.E. 2547, the Graduate School was raised it status to be an organizational unit within the university structure that was equivalent to the faculties. Since then, it has its own personnel and academic administration and is responsible in ensuring the quality of education at the graduate level. It also oversees all the issues concerning the management of all graduate programs. In 2005, the Graduate School was officially declared as one of the university units according to the University Council Regulation on the Establishment and Operation of the Graduate School of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, B.E.2548.

Currently, the Graduate School of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University is an organization unit responsible for promoting the quality graduate education. It also serves as a center for managing and coordinating all issues concerning the management of the graduate programs offered at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. It aims to cultivate students with specialized knowledge and abilities in their fields of study so that they will be equipped with qualifications that can response to social demands and the country development. The Graduate School has a vision to be “A Leading Quality Graduate School” and 4 missions which are:   

  • 1. Facilitate teaching and learning activities in the postgraduate education and develop students’ capabilities both in terms of academic and professional. These practices will lead to a quality society full of knowledge, and skills corresponding to the needs the ASEAN and global communities. 
  • 2. Conduct research projects by focusing on the creation of innovations and knowledge for the development of local communities as well as publish the research works on the international and national platforms.
  • 3. Provide academic service activities for local communities and the society so that locals and Thai people will acquire capabilities that are correspond to the needs and context of global and ASEAN communities. 
  • 4. Arrange activities that can add value to the society and preserve arts and culture so that valuable local identities can be maintained. 

These missions are aligned with the goal in managing and developing of higher education of the country that aims to produce graduates with high quality and potential for developing the country in various aspects.
